Heresy Era Terminators Revamped
I finally got round to re-basing and updating these guys. The re-basing went quite quickly but the addition of the decals was definitely the time consuming bit. Looking much nicer now though I think!

2014: A new year, same old promises!
Its been far too long since I posted anything on here. Its not like I've not been doing any painting though, its just that its all been Flames of War stuff which can be seen here.
However I don't want to neglect this blog entirely so my first job will be a bit of house keeping. I intend 2014 to be a year of consolidation and de-cluttering and to help me keep track of my progress I've decided to add a specific page on the blog summarising what's been achieved. I'm also going to re-organise the gallery page somehow but I'm not quite sure how it will look yet.
So to get things started here are some picture of an Ultramarines Commander I've had sat around half painted for ages and is now finally finshed. Lets hope the rest of 2014 carries on as well as it started!

1st Tactical Squad Revamped
Progress has been somewhat slow of late but in the small amount of time I've had I finally got the revamp done on the original tactical squad. I made a second transfer sheet on a clear background and they worked much better than the white background. Anyway here are a couple of pictures.

Making your own decals
Continuing with my recent efforts to update some of my older miniatures I've turned my attention to the original tactical squad and particularly the lack of any identifying icons so I decided they'd need some decals. I could've just bought the Forgeworld ones but to ensure all the icons look roughly the same across the whole any and be consistant with the other models such as the standard bearer I decided making my own would be best.

DIY Forgeworld MkIc Deimos Rhino
A while ago when Forgeworld release their Heresy Era Rhino. As a model I really like it as a way to add some extra flavour to a pre-heresy army. However at £33 quid I didn't really fancy buying any, especially seeing as I already had the normal Rhino models and Forgeworld no longer seem to offer these models as conversion kits. Well I had a bit of spare time the other day but not enough to get on with painting so I had a go a knocking up a version of my own.

More updating old models
Continuing with my decision to update the original units of this project to bring them in line with my more recent stuff I re-based the standard bearer and apothecary and updated the colour scheme.

Dreadnought Re-painted
I haven't had a huge amount of time for modelling and painting recently so I decided to do something simple which I've been meaning to do for a while. Since I started my Death Guard the style has changed slightly leaving the dreadnought looking a bit out of place so I thought I'd give it a bit of a revamp.

Flames of War Demo Game
A few weeks back I got an all too rare chance to catch up with me friend Ben over at BreakthroughAssault and managed to play a quick demo game of Flames of War. I have to say I had a blast and really enjoyed the opportunity to throw some dice! I did win but it was more about playing a game and hanging out with a good friend. I'm also sure Ben went easy on me and wasn't really trying!
Anyway here are a few action shots from the game.

WIP: HH Death Guard Assault Terminators
Hi All,
Just a quick post for today to show you my assault terminator squad now that the build is finally complete. I'm still toying with the idea of adding some form of neck guard like the FW Cataphrachtii Terminators but I'm not sure how I'd manage it!
Thanks for reading!

DIY Cataphractii Terminators
After seeing the Forgeworld Cataphractii Terminators it inspired me to do some work on my second squad of terminators which have been a long running WIP in between many other projects. I still like the way the first squad of Terminators but when I was making them I didn't think ahead to what would happen if I made a second squad.

New WIP: Forgeworld MkIIB Land Raider
I bought this model a good few years ago now and had originally intended to use it for my Crimson Fists. Having abandoned that particular chapter long ago I decided it would be perfect for my pre-heresy Death Guard army. Although I'm not entirely looking forward to painting this monster tank in white its going to be fun putting it together and trying to get all the iconography on it that I want. This picture is the model as it stands so far. The symbol on the front was made using a press mold (which hopefully I'll get round to doing a separate post on at some point!) with the idea being that I can make lots of the same symbol. The next big job is getting the side sponsons on but in the mean time I also need to paint the inside black as I totally forgot about it whilst putting the chassis together.

Death Guard Colour Scheme
So after finishing my second tactical squad and noticing just how different they are to my first squad I though it was about time I tried to formalise my colour scheme a bit more. Hopefully now that I've found a scheme I like I can then stick to it better and make sure all the units in my army belong to the same force.

2nd Tactical Squad Finially Finished
So here's a quick shot of the second tactical squad which I've finally managed to finish. Unfortunately things have been so busy with work that they've actually been finished for a week or so but I hadn't had the chance to even get a photo of them. Hopefully soon I'll get chance to put some better shots up here. As you can see they're a bit different to my older ones so I'll need to go back to the original tactical squad and see what I can do to make the whole force look more cohesive. I'm much happier with this 2nd squad, it's much closer to how I imagine they should look in battle with the additional weathering, rather than the showroom pristine look I used to paint!
until next time (which I hope won't be too long!),

Damn you Forgeworld! (you can't help but love them!)
Don't get me wrong, I love all the miniatures Forgeworld produce, especially all the space marine stuff. It's just that the pre-heresy books from the Black Library have been an on going thing for quite a while now, and only now have Forgeworld caught up. The problem is that I originally started my Death Guard army after reading the first couple of books. Since then I've been converting all my models to look more suitable for a pre-heresy army and Forgeworld have been releasing lovely new models of the various mk's of armour, all of which look so much better than my models. I also have a few vehicles sat still on the sprues waiting to be included in my army. I figured if I'd gone to all the effort of altering my normal troops it would be a shame not to do the same for the vehicles. Below is a Rhino door I sculpted a while back which I intend to use on both my rhino's and my mkIIb land raider.

Space Hulk Terminators
I'm having a bit of a break from the Death Guard at the moment. Not because I'm bored of them or anything, I've just been away from home a lot recently and I don't want to be carting lots of paints around with me. Luckily I still have tons of models which still need putting together and its far easier to take a few modelling tools and some glue with me wherever I go.

WISP: Work In Slow Progress - Second Death Guard Tactical Squad
Its been a while since I completed the test model for the second tactical squad and unfortunately progress has somewhat slowed since then. I have managed to get a few minutes here and there but all in all it seems this squad is going to take a while, especially seeing as its shaping up to be a pretty busy summer. So here's a quick picture of the squad so far. They've been undercoated white and the airbrushed skull white and then blacklined with Soft body black. I've started blocking out the non white area's with adeptus battlegrey, (mainly because I don't really like the semi gloss finish you sometimes get with chaos black) ready for their respective colours but as you can see this is as far as I've got.
Still, slowly getting there...

Post Heresy Death Guard
Just while I have a few spare minutes I thought I'd share some pictures of my Chaos Nurgle army. The army follows the pre heresy colour scheme fairly closely, albeit with more filth and corruption. There were two main reasons for this. First I didn't want to do the standard nurgle dark green scheme and also if it came to playing a huge apocalypse game I could use both together as one huge army.

Improvements to be made
After taking a few photos of the original tactical squad a had to admit that although I like the models I realised there were some improvements to be made. After a bit of head scratching I decided to take a side by side photo with one of my post heresy Death Guard Plague Marines (I may put up some more photo's of these too in future). The model I chose was one that I had re-based a while back when experimenting with urban style bases.
