Damn you Forgeworld! (you can't help but love them!)

Don't get me wrong, I love all the miniatures Forgeworld produce, especially all the space marine stuff. It's just that the pre-heresy books from the Black Library have been an on going thing for quite a while now, and only now have Forgeworld caught up. The problem is that I originally started my Death Guard army after reading the first couple of books. Since then I've been converting all my models to look more suitable for a pre-heresy army and Forgeworld have been releasing lovely new models of the various mk's of armour, all of which look so much better than my models. I also have a few vehicles sat still on the sprues waiting to be included in my army. I figured if I'd gone to all the effort of altering my normal troops it would be a shame not to do the same for the vehicles. Below is a Rhino door I sculpted a while back which I intend to use on both my rhino's and my mkIIb land raider.

Space Hulk Terminators

I'm having a bit of a break from the Death Guard at the moment. Not because I'm bored of them or anything, I've just been away from home a lot recently and I don't want to be carting lots of paints around with me. Luckily I still have tons of models which still need putting together and its far easier to take a few modelling tools and some glue with me wherever I go.

WISP: Work In Slow Progress - Second Death Guard Tactical Squad

Its been a while since I completed the test model for the second tactical squad and unfortunately progress has somewhat slowed since then. I have managed to get a few minutes here and there but all in all it seems this squad is going to take a while, especially seeing as its shaping up to be a pretty busy summer. So here's a quick picture of the squad so far. They've been undercoated white and the airbrushed skull white and then blacklined with Soft body black. I've started blocking out the non white area's with adeptus battlegrey, (mainly because I don't really like the semi gloss finish you sometimes get with chaos black) ready for their respective colours but as you can see this is as far as I've got.

Still, slowly getting there...

Second Death Guard Tactical Squad - Test Model

I managed to find some time at the weekend and got this test model done. After doing the shoulder pads I couldn't wait to get some paint on it and find out how the moldings really looked. I decided to include a Plague Marine and also an older Pre-Heresy Death Guard model in the photo's to give some comparison and see if I had pulled off the look I was after. All in all I think it went pretty well so here's a bit of an explanation...

Second Death Guard Tactical Squad & Sculpted Shoulder Pads

Here are some WIP shots of the second tactical squad I've been working on. After reading a few great tutorials from Ron at From The Warp on sculpting and then molding shoulder pads I decided to have a go myself. I won't go into any real details on the process itself as i pretty much followed the way Ron suggested. The only real difference is that I used Mulliput for the reproduction shoulder pads as I found it to be softer and more easier to mold. It also sets rock hard so there are no flexing issues in the pads. I also changed the theme of the bases to a more urban setting from the original bases so I can't wait to see how it all looks once I've done some painting!

Post Heresy Death Guard

Just while I have a few spare minutes I thought I'd share some pictures of my Chaos Nurgle army. The army follows the pre heresy colour scheme fairly closely, albeit with more filth and corruption. There were two main reasons for this. First I didn't want to do the standard nurgle dark green scheme and also if it came to playing a huge apocalypse game I could use both together as one huge army.

Improvements to be made

After taking a few photos of the original tactical squad a had to admit that although I like the models I realised there were some improvements to be made. After a bit of head scratching I decided to take a side by side photo with one of my post heresy Death Guard Plague Marines (I may put up some more photo's of these too in future). The model I chose was one that I had re-based a while back when experimenting with urban style bases.
